HUAQUECHULA 5
PUEBLA
Image #1045
The north door of the former monastery of Saint Martin (San Martín) is an example of the “cookie-cutter style” popular in sixteenth century Mexico. Above the door Christ sits triumphant, flanked by a flowering bush and a sword, symbols of compassion and divine power as well as angels trumpeting His praise. Below are figures of a queen and king in submissive poses. On either side of the door stand Saints Peter and Paul (San Pedro y San Pablo).
